God works with submission, and that works for me.
God is opposed to the proud, but He gives grace to the humble. Submit therefore to God. –James 4.6b-7a.
If anything is anathema in our post-modern world, it is submission. But as I look back on my life, I can see that most everything I ever “accomplished” was due simply to the fact that God gave me grace to submit to Him and to the human authorities He placed over me. Sometimes that submission meant studying hard. Sometimes it meant leaving one career field for another. Sometimes it meant seeking the success of my superiors. Sometimes it meant reading a book to my children. Sometimes it meant telling my wife that she was right. Many times it meant telling God that I was wrong. Submission doesn’t seem like much, but over time it adds up, and God can do some pretty neat things with it. God works with submission, and that works for me.
