Jesus commanded his disciples to make all nations like they were – disciples of Jesus, bearing the name of the Triune God, and following all that Jesus commanded. (Mat 28.18-20.) How would they accomplish so audacious a task? By proclaiming the message entrusted to them – a message God promised would be foolish in the eyes of the world, and yet a message through which God also promised to change the world. (Rom 1.16; 1Cor 1.21; Eph 3.8-9.) What is this message? And how can it be communicated to a world of people with no connection to the Jewish worldview within which Jesus ministered and no understanding of the Old Testament promises which he fulfilled? That is the predicament Paul faced in Acts 17 as he addressed the intellectuals of Athens, which represented the highest peak of pagan philosophical thought. How would Paul gain a real hearing before such an audience? Where would he challenge them? What truths would he emphasize? To find out, you will have to listen to the sermon. I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for listening. –Alan Burrow
