Two of the gospels tell us that it was because of envy that Christ was crucified (Mat 27.18; Mark 15.10). Get this – envy was the main motivator in the wickedest act of human history, the judicial murder of the Son of God. This ought to serve as a wake up call to the seminally destructive role envy plays in human relations. It is no wonder that the first thing Paul says love refuses to do is envy.
